Ok…so you think the history of printing is pretty boring. But let me tell you, there are some facts that may just surprise you.
Did you know that the now famous “Printers Alley”. a hot-spot for night life in Nashville, was once the home of ten printers and thirteen publishers. From the early 1800′s until the turn of the century, printers would gather in the alley as the presses idled. Due to the narrow cobblestone alley, paper suppliers would unload their trucks at the end of the alleyway and roll them to their final destination.
One by one the printers and publishers left this area of Nashville, seeking out larger buildings that could handle their ever growing businesses. The last printing company to leave the alley was the Ambrose Printing Company, 1977.
Now “Printers Alley” is the home of several well-known establishments that over the years have featured many popular musicians.
So now you know the history of Nashville’s, “Printers Alley”.
